Ethan boarded the boat silently and disinterested, taking orders without protest and sitting amongst the girls. As far as he would admit to himself he was only participating in the tasks as a boredom buster, and the feeling of obligation that had settled on most of the students. Being the anti-social person he was it was no surprise that he didn’t know any of the boys that had been lost, but something about there deaths that struck a chord in the junior, although he would never admit that. He looked over at Ronnie quickly and subtly, thinking briefly of the kiss in the stadium and shook his head. There was no denying that he was also here to look after the only people at Allegory that Ethan cared for, the boy was going to make sure that nothing happened to them, if they were injured the guilt would be unbearable. He caught Helena’s eyes as she paddled and sent her a grin and a roll of his eyes, as if to say he was bored already. Another way to disguise his emotions, the junior was constantly hiding behind a blase’ exterior. At Ronnie’s exclamation he quickly moved over and placed a protective hand on the girl unthinkingly, than quickly took it off embarrassed. “What is it?”

Andi paddled with her group mates, not even thinking about taking a break. Her mind was set. She was going to get her friends back. She was getting Hal back. She turned to look at her group mates. She was only thankful that she had Lena, Natalie, and Ronnie there— although Ronnie got a majority of the students drunk, including Winter who was supposed to be there with them. She tilted her head to the side as she sighed, a bit mad that her best friend was drunk and not there to kill monsters with her. They had planned this. They were both excited for this and yet the girl was MIA. She stopped from paddling once she heard Ronnie ask the group a question she didn’t hear quite well. “What? What happened? You saw something?” She quickly asked her, standing up a bit to check the ocean. She could already see the island from where they were. Scoffing a bit, she shook her head. Great, just great. We were near the island already. Oh well, might as well kill as many sons of a gun as possible. She thought to herself, turning to look at the girl who looked like Summer. She was seated quite comfortably, a blank look was on the girl’s face which kind of sent shivers down Andi’s spine. Creeping the girl out wasn’t something that happens everyday. Andi might be a total rebel child but she wasn’t stupid. Crossing the girl was definitely not in her list, more when she’s heard about what the girl does.
“It was some kind of centaur for water. You know, half-man half-whatever.” Gian shrugged her shoulders, looking out towards the sea, before turning to look at the girl who was leading their group. If Shiloh wasn’t one of the bodies, Gian wouldn’t join in. Well, not really. She would probably just join for the fun of it all, though. She stood up, a blank expression on the girl’s face, as she crossed her arms and saw something move towards them. She quickly grabbed one of the paddles and broke it in two using her bare hands and leg, throwing the other half inside the boat while she held the other one, the edge facing the other other direction. She was ready to stab the creature if it came near them. The water became calm for a few seconds. Gian knew that what would come next wouldn’t be delightful— whether it’s for them or for the creature, she has yet to find out. Suddenly, the creature arose from the sea and jumped above them, landing in the water on the opposite side of the boat. She furrowed her eyebrows, making sounds with her neck as she bent them a bit. She concentrated for a while, trying to listen to the sounds around her as she closed her eyes. It was just like those days in Brazil when she was running for her life with only a knife in hand. She heard something move in the water and aimed the broken piece of paddle towards it. She managed to scratch it’s body, hearing it hiss as it dived in the water once again. She knew it wasn’t the end. It was going to go back at them.
